B.A., LL.B (Honours) Course w.e.f.  the academic year 2019-20

(The draft regulations and syllabus for the course is approved by the Academic Council of Bangalore University and is pending approval by Govt. of Karnataka)

University Law College made a proud and profound beginning with the introduction of the Five Year LLB course in 1986-87.  In the year 2009-10 as per the Bar Council of India directions the Five Year B.A., LL.B course was revised to make it an integrated course with Economics as a major subject. In the academic year 2019-20, the 5 Year B.A., LL.B integrated course is discontinued and in need for the changing times in the society and legal fraternity 5 years  B.A., LL.B (Honours) course is introduced following the rules laid down by the Bar Council of India under Legal Education Rules, 2008.  The students who complete the 10 semesters of the course shall be eligible for the B.A., LL.B (Honours) Degree award.

Eligibility criteria: 

An applicant seeking admission to the B.A., LL.B. (Honours) Degree Course shall have completed Pre-University Course or Senior Secondary School Course (‘+2’)  or equivalent (such as 11 + 1, ‘A’ level in Senior School Leaving Certificate Course) from a recognized University in India or outside or from a Senior Secondary Board or equivalent, constituted or recognized by the Union or by a State Government securing in the aggregate, marks not less than 45% (in the case of SC/ST-40% and in the case of OBC-42% as notified by the Government of Karnataka) of the total marks.

Intake: 60 students

LL.M (2 years) Post Graduate Degree Course w.e.f. the academic year 2019-20.

The Master degree in Law was started in the year 1960-61 as an M.L. Degree course. After becoming part of the Bangalore University in 1976, the Department of Studies in Law has been offering an LL.M programme in 5 different branches with an intake of 10 students under the general admission policy laid down by the Government and 2 students per branch underpayment seat category with enhanced fees. The LL.M programme in all the five branches of specialization has been a story of great success.

LL.M. is offered in the following areas of specialization:

  1. CONSTITUTION AND LEGAL ORDER.
  2. CORPORATE AND COMMERCIAL LAW.
  3. LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT LAW.
  4. HUMAN RIGHTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL LAW.(under suspension)
  5. CRIMINAL LAW.

Eligibility criteria:

Candidates seeking admission to LL.M. Degree under semester scheme should have passed the LL.B. degree from any University recognised by the Bar Council having secured not less than 45% in the aggregate (5% relaxation for SC/ST, Category I and differently-abled candidates in the aggregate of 3 years/5 years LL.B. Degree Examinations conducted by Bangalore University or any other University recognized by U.G.C leading to the award of LL.B Degree. The mode of selection of candidates is through Common Entrance Test conducted by the college.

Nature of the Course: C.B.C.S. (Choice Based Credit Scheme)

Duration: 2 years (4 Semesters)

Intake: 10+2 in each branch of specialization.
